The Waffle House, St Albans – the perfect place for Sunday brunch

Waffles with eggs and bacon, waffles with ice cream, waffles with mushrooms, waffles with maple syrup… the list goes on. The Waffle House gives you what you’d expect; waffles with everything!

Ideal for Sunday breakfast, dessert or a quick snack, there is bound to be something to suit your tastes from the variety of sweet and savoury waffles on the menu.

The waffles are crisp at the edges, soft in the middle and not too thick. Each portion is generous; and a good size for sharing.

The toppings served with each waffle were plentiful too.

The banoffee waffle was heavenly – just as sweet as you would expect, although a little sickening toward the end!

The cheese and mushroom waffle was tasty, despite the fact that the cheese sauce was quite gloopy (but easy to push aside on the plate!) and the mushrooms were fairly watery.

The chocolate sauce served with the waffle was runny and cold (wouldn’t recommend it) but the maple syrup was delicious – it was rich, thick and didn’t taste purely of sugar!

I can’t wait to go back to The Waffle House so I can work my way down the menu – there are so many different toppings to try!

With both outdoor and indoor seating, this place is great all year round. Even on a crisp winter morning, it was great to sit outside on the benches in the tented garden with warming heaters keeping the chill away.

Indoors, the small tables beside the roaring fireplace are said to be favourite spots for regulars.Set within an ancient watermill, overlooking the River Ver and just across the road from a beautiful park, the location of The Waffle House is ever so pretty.

If the weather is good, you can expect to queue to get in to eat (unfortunately The Waffle House doesn’t do takeaways). Thankfully there is free parking, and it is a very family-friendly place with a cheerful ambience and helpful staff.

The fantastic location meant that after paying the bill, there was only one thing left to do – take a leisurely stroll around the park across the road (pictured, left) to walk off our meal!
